Åre Mountain Hikes
A unique hiking experience on the mountains which is bathed in forest fruits, scenic views for miles and drinking from the mountains stream with your Swedish wooden cup (kåsa). Åre mountain (Årefjällen) has a choice of mountain hikes to explore from easy to demanding walks.
You will find a variety of walks in this area: take an amazing summit trip to Åreskutan from Åre square, which takes around 5 hours round trip or easier trails that go to Ullådalen and more child-friendly forest walks called "The Troll walk." The troll walk which goes from the village square through forest paths, along a small waterfull and mountain streams with elves and trolls along the road. There is a further walk up to Totthummeln which in total is a 5.8km and on the top you will see Vålådalen mountain, and the Norway mountains, Snasahögarna and Storulvån.
For a wonderful packed lunch hike, we highly recommend Ullådalen which is a classic popular bathing spot and great fun for children and adults. Start from the car park and then walk along the waterfalls to find an amazing spot where you can relax. Another easier hike is to visit the quaint mountain village called "Ottsjö" which is a 30 minute drive from Åre. Here you will find the "Platåleden", about 6.3km trail. You will start from the car park up to Kalfjället where you will find amazing views over Ottfjället, and a resting hut point with sunny seating areas.
There is an amazing spot in "Vålådalen" called "Nulltjärnsrundan" where you can combine hiking,swimming, and grilling. Starting from Vålådalen's mountain station, you can follow the trail which goes through forest of birch trees and streams which end up on sandy beach with the view of stunning mountains in the background. Here you will find barbecue areas. The whole trip is 7.8km. We can also offer a Nature Adventure, Gastronomy walk with a culinary hike where you can experience mountain food in combination with other local delicacies.
